General instructions:
- Unless otherwise instructed by the office, please do not feed your pet after 8 PM the previous evening. Water does not need to be withheld.
- Please be sure your pet has gone to the bathroom the morning of surgery before you leave home.
- Basic arrival time the morning of surgery is 7:45 am.
- Times for pickup of your pet are between 2-5 pm, again unless otherwise instructed.
General aftercare instructions for most surgeries:
Your pet may be tired and thirsty. Moderate water consumption is fine, but not excessive as it may lead to nausea. Nausea is common, with occasionally some spitting up happening. Mild drooling may occur as well. Anything more severe than mild nausea symptoms should be relayed
to the office.
Additionally, your pet may be offered small amounts of food, again unless otherwise instructed. It is common for pets to have a reduced appetite the first day after surgery. Gradually this returns to normal over the next day or two. If your pet's appetite hasn't returned to normal within 48 hours, please let us know.
Your pet may attempt to lick at any incision lines from the surgery. Mild, cursory licking is fine. If your pet decides to continuously lick, then an elizabethan collar will likely need to be used. These can be purchased at the major pet stores. Again, please let us know if this is happening.
Additional instructions may be warranted depending on the surgery and individual situation. If you have any questions please contact the House Call Vet office at (972) 517-2222. |
