Dr. Sohmer is a 1979 graduate of the University of Illinois Veterinary School and is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Dallas County Veterinary Medical Association.

Dr. Sohmer is the original owner and founder of The House Call Vet. After eight years of veterinary practice, following graduation, Dr. Sohmer began the mobile practice known as The House Call Vet in 1987.

The House Call Vet was recognized as one of the top 50 services in 1993 by "D" magazine.
